William Kapos transitions to President in planned leadership succession for family-owned company

Pawtucket, R.I. (August 17, 2026) – Downeast Coffee Roasters proudly announces a planned leadership transition. Mike Kapos has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer. Bill Kapos has transitioned to President and remains actively involved in the company.

This succession marks an important milestone in the company’s history. Downeast has been family owned and operated since its founding in 1953, and Mike’s appointment continues that legacy. Mike brings to the table a renewed strategic perspective and fresh executive vision combined with a deep-rooted commitment to the core generational values that the company has thrived on under the leadership of his grandfather and most recently, his father.

After beginning his career in finance and tech, Mike joined Downeast in 2010, drawn by the opportunity to carry forward his family’s traditions while helping to evolve and grow the business. Since joining the company, Mike has led a full rebrand, expanded Downeast’s offerings and placed a greater focus on its specialty coffee products, which have experienced significant growth. He also launched Downeast’s direct-to-consumer ecommerce business and has led investments in new roasting and packaging equipment to support the company’s continued growth.
