The "Downeast" name
Still today, coffee is delivered all over the world in large ships. It was around the 1670’s that brewed coffee was introduced to the colonists, and much of it was brought to this new land was by way of the Maine clipper ship (primarily from Boston). Mainers would refer to this voyage as going "Down East" because Maine sits east of Boston and is downwind!
